Do I need to create an account?

Yes. It's free, and it keeps your rides, bikes, and records safe if you lose or switch phones.

Where is my data stored?

On your phone, and every change also saves to your Odomap account in the cloud — photos and receipts included. When you sign out, it's removed from the phone; sign in again (on this phone or a new one) and it all comes back.

How do I back up my rides, bikes, and maintenance history?

There's nothing to press: everything saves to your account automatically a few seconds after each change. On a new phone, just sign in and your data comes back.

Why does Odomap ask for location access in the background?

Only while you're actively recording a ride, so your route keeps recording if your phone locks or you switch apps mid-ride.

Why does Google Maps show a stop along my scenic route?

Left to itself, Google Maps (or Apple Maps) may pick a different road than the scenic one Odomap found. Odomap adds a stop or two on the scenic road so the voice directions follow it. Ride straight through; you don't need to stop there.
